NaPoWriMo: Day 2

A poem that tells a lie….

Wasn’t sure how to approach this, so I’ve done an easy one. Taken phrases from the game of charades we were playing yesterday and tried to make them more literal….it’s kind of about lying because these phrases suggest a general truth about human nature, so I’m reflecting on that.

takes one bad apple to rot a barrel

they pulse and bruise, a sodden mass

of collapsing skin, golden insides

turning to yellow mush

butter wouldn’t melt in your mouth

it would slide down your throat

a solid block that grazes your teeth

comes to rest, cold as truth, in your stomach

love is blind, it gropes in the dark

for your hand, it navigates streets

by sound, it grips you, desperate

for guidance as you step forwards.
