I’m finding it funny that today’ s prompt is to be honest and: ‘say things you’d like to say, but never would, to a parent, lover, sibling, child, teacher, roommate, best friend, mayor, president, corporate CEO, etc.’ So we blog it instead :P. I’m liking Mel’s interpretation, a metaphor skirting attack on how we engage. In fact, my memory poems I’ve been writing this week have consisted of a lot of the things I wouldn’t say to parents, lovers, teachers, etc, and I’ve deliberately not been posting them! So maybe I won’t be doing that prompt.
Instead I’m reflecting on the Cornerhouse Exhibition, Anguish and Enthusiasm. I went to the preview today, and took some notes on two different video installations.* Two different women, both reflecting on different revolutions, the aftermath. One of the lines is a direct quote.
She waters the plants from a bucket
Throws it to lap at the ground
water drinking the dry soil.
She plucks a handful of droplets
chucks it at flower heads,
fingers loose in the petals
like a roaming insect,
a sucking bee, a clicking grasshopper
domestic garden sounds.
In another room,
she talks about bombs, ammunition
how it blows up a child
bury the body in the bushes
her nails are shiny, polished
with a sheen like sun on water

Also, here is a link to Steph Pike talking about what poetry means!
‘If our hopes and dreams were unarticulated feelings, and we see those given shape and form and life in a poem, if they are given voice then we can believe in the attainment of those dreams and in moving towards our dreams we turn words into actions.’
They will be studying your poems on
The curriculum within ten years. Your art poems are always sublime but this one is gorgeous. X
Aw th Mel, that’s really sweet thing to say (especially as I had a rejection from a mag in my inbox this morning). My ego is restored :D.
